Isomura was born in the city of Osaka and graduated from Osaka City University. Isomura initially began his career as an economics professor at Osaka City University.[1] He became vice mayor of Osaka in April 1990 at the request of former Osaka Mayor Masaya Nishio.[1] Isomura succeeded Nishio when he was elected mayor in December 1995.[1] One of Isomura's main goals during his time in office was to make Osaka the host city for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.[1] However, Osaka lost its bid to Beijing at the meeting of the International Olympic Committee in July 2001.[1] Takafumi Isomura died of hepatocellular carcinoma at a hospital in Osaka on November 26, 2007.[1] He was 76 years old.[1] {{s-start}}{{succession box | title=Mayor of Osaka | before=Masaya Nishio | after=Junichi Seki| years=1995–2003}}{{s-end}}References1. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 7 {{cite news |first=|last=|title= Obituary / Takafumi Isomura / Former Osaka Mayor |url=http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/20071128TDY02201.htm|work= Yomiuri Shimbun |publisher= |date=2007-11-28|accessdate=2007-11-27}} {{Dead link|date=October 2010|bot=H3llBot}} {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Isomura, Takafumi}}{{Japan-politician-1930s-stub}}{{Japan-mayor-stub}} 7 : 1930 births|2007 deaths|People from Osaka|Japanese economists|Mayors of Osaka|Deaths from liver cancer|Deaths from cancer in Japan |
