Patrick Stewart was a pupil at the MFG and, in September 2011, he opened the school as an academy.[1] The school was rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in 2008 and again in 2012.[2] In 2017, the school was rated 'Requires Improvement' by Ofsted.[3]In 2013, a new extension was added to the sports centre which includes a state-of-the-art Dance Studio and Gym.[4] The school has undergone major renovations, completed by September 2014. This included a brand new Music, Drama and DT classrooms as well as a redeveloped quad area with ramp access for pupils, requiring some old buildings to be demolished and kept down.
