The grade K-12 school is for children who must learn using non-traditional techniques.[2] Established in 1975, the school is named after Sir Winston Churchill and offers individualized curricula for students with learning differences. HistoryThe Winston School opened in September 1975 to serve students in grades 1-6 with learning differences and Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. The school added additional grades, with its first ninth grade class graduated in 1978. An upper school with high school grades began in 1983; its first senior class graduated in 1986. A kindergarten class was added in 2015. The school is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest, approved by the Texas Education Agency, and a member of the National Association of Independent Schools. CampusThe Winston School operated in buildings on the Greenhill School campus from its opening until 1978, when it moved to its present site on Royal Lane in North Dallas. The upper school (high school) was temporarily housed at University of Dallas until an expansion to the Royal Lane campus was completed in 1989. An additional expansion, which added a fine arts building to the campus, took place in 2016. The Winston School also has another campus in Del Mar, California which was started by Dr. John Richards. School and Extracurricular activities{{expand section|date=November 2008}}AthleticsThe Winston School fields teams in interscholastic competition in baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, golf, soccer, softball, bowling, tennis and volleyball. Fine ArtsThe Winston School is well known for its fine arts and attracting students to the school with a passion for them. Much of the school is decorated with various pieces of student art collected by the school for many years. The Winston School offers many fine art courses in there curriculum such as Photography, 2 Dimensional Art painting, and 3 Dimensional Art which consist of Clay Sculpting, Pottery, Band, Choir, Wood Turning, and metal working.
