He was born in Luddesdown in Kent in 1816 and died in Margate in the same county in 1874.^[1]

Cheesman made his only first-class appearance in 1854 against a United England Eleven, one of fifteen players on the Kent team.^[1]^[2] Cheesman also played in non-first-class matches for Gravesend Cricket Club and for Gentlemen of Kent sides.^[2]
