Thomas Pakenham, 1st Baron Longford (May 1713 – 30 April 1766) was an Irish peer and politician. He was born in 1713 at Pakenham Hall, County Westmeath, Ireland, eldest son of Edward Pakenham and Margaret, daughter of John Bradestan; he was the grandson of Sir Thomas Pakenham (1649-1703), the Prime Serjeant.[1] Between 1745 and 1757, Pakenham represented Longford Borough in the Irish House of Commons. He married Elizabeth Cuffe, later 1st Countess of Longford, in 1739 and in 1756 was created the 1st Baron Longford because his wife was the grand-niece and heiress of Ambrose Aungier, 2nd Earl of Longford, who had died without issue. They had seven children, four sons and three daughters:
Pakenham died 30 April 1766 at the age of 52. Upon his death their son, Edward, became the 2nd Baron Longford. The first baron's fourth son was Admiral Sir Thomas Pakenham.[2] References1. ^{{cite web | title=Thomas Pakenham, 1st Baron Longford | publisher=Thepeerage.com | date= | url=http://www.thepeerage.com/p14808.htm | accessdate =2009-02-05 }} {{s-start}}{{s-par|ie}}{{s-bef| before = Michael Cuffe 2. ^{{Cite book|work=The Annual biography and obituary|title=The Honourable Thomas Pakenham, G.D.B.|page=236|date=1837}} Richard Edgeworth }}{{s-ttl | title = Member of Parliament for Longford Borough | with = Richard Edgeworth | years = 1745–1757 }}{{s-aft| after = Roger Hall Richard Edgeworth }}{{s-reg|ie}}{{s-new|creation }}{{s-ttl| title = Baron Longford | years = 1756–1766 }}{{s-aft| after = Edward Pakenham }}{{s-end}}{{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Longford, Thomas Pakenham, 1st Baron}}{{Ireland-pre1801-MP-stub}}{{Ireland-baron-stub}} 8 : 1713 births|1766 deaths|18th-century Irish people|Barons in the Peerage of Ireland|Peers of Ireland created by George II|Irish MPs 1727–60|Members of the Parliament of Ireland (pre-1801) for County Longford constituencies|Pakenham family |
