The population of the CDP was 46 at the 2010 census.[3] The CDP is located along Farm Road 3073 in northwestern Jim Hogg County, {{convert|9|mi|0}} southwest of Hebbronville, the county seat. The CDP takes its name from an unincorporated community near the western border of Jim Hogg County, at the junction of Farm Roads 649 and 3073, {{convert|9|mi|0}} west of the Thompsonville CDP and {{convert|18|mi}} southwest of Hebbronville. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community was probably named after Jim Hogg County's first sheriff, Oscar Thompson.[4] Thompsonville's history dates back to the 1910s. The first commercial oil well in the county began producing oil on April 17, 1921. The well was located in the Mirando Valley field near Thompsonville and brought new residents to the area.[5] A post office in 1925, but was discontinued around 1936. A school and several businesses were located at the site in the late 1940s. Today, Thompsonville is a small, dispersed community with a population less than 50.[3] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://factfinder2.census.gov|publisher=United States Census Bureau|accessdate=2008-01-31|title=American FactFinder}} 2. ^{{gnis|2584746|Thompsonville Census Designated Place}} 3. ^1 {{Cite web| url=https://factfinder.census.gov/bkmk/table/1.0/en/DEC/10_SF1/G001/1600000US4872758| title=Geographic Identifiers: 2010 Census Summary File 1 (G001): Thompsonville CDP, Texas| publisher=U.S. Census Bureau| work=American Factfinder| accessdate=November 29, 2018}} 4. ^{{cite web | url = http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/hrt18| title = Thompsonville, Texas | work = | publisher = The Handbook of Texas online | date = | accessdate = 2009-10-17}} 5. ^{{cite web | url = http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/hcj06| title = Jim Hogg County | work = | publisher = The Handbook of Texas online | date = | accessdate = 2009-10-17}} External links
