释义 | Tijuca Point ({{coord|54|20|S|36|13|W|display=inline,title}}) is a prominent rock point forming the northwest side of the entrance to Hound Bay on the north coast of South Georgia. The name Penguin Point was probably applied to this feature by DI personnel who made a running survey of this coast in 1930. Following the SGS, 1951–52, it was recommended that this name be altered to avoid confusion with the many other "Penguin" names. The name Tijuca Point was given by the United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) for the Tijuca, a three-masted barque built at Nantes in 1866. From 1908 onwards, she was used as a transport vessel by the Compania Argentina de Pesca, lying between Buenos Aires and the whaling station at Grytviken. She foundered in 1946. {{usgs-gazetteer}}{{SouthGeorgia-geo-stub}} 1 : Headlands of South Georgia |
