CareerDocherty's short career began in 1987 with Dunfermline Athletic before moving to English side Cambridge United. In the early 1990s, Docherty returned to Scotland, having spells with Stirling Albion, East Stirlingshire and Albion Rovers. During his time with the Coatbridge club, Docherty became SFA Development Officer for the Glasgow area, spending three years before a move to Falkirk as Community Coach. Upon Ian McCall's appointment as manager at Brockville, Docherty became assistant manager, and when McCall moved to take charge of Dundee United in early 2003, Docherty came as part of the management team. Following McCall's dismissal and Gordon Chisholm's subsequent appointment, Docherty was promoted to first team coach, a position he held under the successive management spells of Craig Brewster and Craig Levein.[2] In November 2007, Docherty left Tannadice and moved to Scottish First Division side St Johnstone as assistant manager, working under former United player Derek McInnes.[3] achieving promotion back to the SPL eighteen months later. When McInnes became manager of Bristol City in October 2011, Docherty followed him to Ashton Gate as assistant manager.[4] On 25 March 2013 he once again teamed up with Derek McInnes, this time at SPL side Aberdeen.[5] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.neilbrown.newcastlefans.com/player8/tonydocherty.html |title=TONY DOCHERTY |work=www.neilbrown.newcastlefans.com |publisher= |accessdate=16 September 2012}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Docherty, Tony}}2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.dundeeunitedfc.co.uk/index.asp?tm=19 |title=Backroom Staff|publisher=Dundee United FC|accessdate=2008-05-27 |archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20070819090515/http://www.dundeeunitedfc.co.uk/index.asp?tm=19 |archivedate = 2007-08-19}} 3. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/output/2007/11/29/gensport.shtm|title=Doc on call at Saints|date=2007-11-29|publisher=Evening Telegraph|accessdate=2008-05-27}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15323776.stm|title=Derek McInnes leaves St Johnstone for Bristol City|work=BBC Sport|publisher=BBC|date=19 October 2011|accessdate=19 October 2011}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.afc.co.uk/articles/20130325/dons-confirm-mcinnes-and-docherty_2212158_3121066 |title=Dons confirm McInnes and Docherty |work=www.afc.co.uk |publisher=Aberdeen FC |date=25 March 2013 |accessdate=21 April 2013}} 19 : 1971 births|Aberdeen F.C. non-playing staff|Association football midfielders|Bristol City F.C. non-playing staff|Cambridge United F.C. players|Carnoustie Panmure F.C. managers|Dundee United F.C. non-playing staff|Dunfermline Athletic F.C. players|East Stirlingshire F.C. players|Albion Rovers F.C. players|Falkirk F.C. non-playing staff|Living people|People from East Kilbride|Scottish Football League players|Scottish football managers|Scottish footballers|Sportspeople from South Lanarkshire|St Johnstone F.C. non-playing staff|Stirling Albion F.C. players |
