The label was founded by singer-songwriter and producer Mark Carman and his friend and business associate, Frank Scherman. At the time of the label's foundation, it was one of the few independent country music labels to have significant chart success, most notably in 1989, when the label released Heartland's "New River", the only independently released single on the Billboard country charts at the time of its release.[1] The label lasted until 2007, having numerous Top 40 successes with Heartland's "Keep the Faith" and "Making Love to Dixie". TRA-Star also released a string of Top 40 hits by other artists including Billy Walker, Patsy Cole, and Rebecca Holden. Roster
