It is native to west-central Africa and is typically found growing in shallow soils on inselbergs. The species is the only member of its genus not found in the moist forests of tropical Asia and the only species of the subgenus Keatingia. Tricarpelema africanums physical separation from its Asian relatives has led it to evolve a number of unique morphological features, most of which are vegetative adaptations to drier conditions.[1] References1. ^1 {{citation| last=Faden| first=Robert B.| journal=Novon| volume=17| issue=2| pages=160–171| title=New Species of Tricarpelema (Commelinaceae) from Africa and Asia, Including the First Record of the Genus from Africa and a Synopsis of the Genus| year=2007 |url=http://www.bioone.org/doi/full/10.3417/1055-3177(2007)17%5B160%3ANSOTCF%5D2.0.CO%3B2| doi=10.3417/1055-3177(2007)17[160:NSOTCF]2.0.CO;2}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q5466446}}{{Commelinales-stub}} 6 : Flora of Cameroon|Flora of Gabon|Flora of Equatorial Guinea|Plants described in 2007|Tricarpelema|Vulnerable plants |
