It is located on the high Trnovo Forest Plateau ({{lang-sl|Trnovski gozd}}) in the traditional Slovene Littoral region.[2] Mass graveTrnovo is the site of a mass grave from the period immediately after the Second World War. The Zalesnika Shaft Mass Grave ({{lang-sl|Grobišče Brezno Zalesnika}}), also known as the Wild Apple Shaft Mass Grave ({{lang|sl|Grobišče Brezno za lesniko}}), is located 1.5 km northeast of the village on the right side of the road to Lokve.
