After the first few hours of the battle, ARBiH troops broke the Croatian defense, and captured Croat soldiers. Eighteen civilians, including two children, and four captured Croat fighters were killed in various locations during and/or after the battle.[1] The remaining civilians, mostly women and children were detained in several private houses, and later released from the village.[1] TrialsThe Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charged six members of the Bosnian army's "Zulfikar" special unit including Mensur Memić, Dževad Salčin, Nedžad Hodžić, Senad Hakalović, Nihad Bojadžić and Zulfikar Ališpago for the murder of 22 people, including four HVO members and 18 civilians.[2] Two other suspects, Edin Džeko[3][4][5] and Rasema Handanović[6] [7] were extradited from the US for their alleged involvement. In April 2012, Rasema Handanović pleaded guilty to killing Croat civilians and prisoners of war, expressing "deep regret" for her actions.[8] She was sentenced to five and a half years imprisonment after she agreed to testify against the "Zulfikar" unit members in a plea bargain.[9] References1. ^1 {{cite web|title=Time for Truth: Review of the Work of the War Crimes Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina 2005-2010|url=http://www.bim.ba/templates/birnbih/img/tim_for_truth.pdf|publisher=Balkan Investigative Reporting Network|year=2010|access-date=2011-10-25|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110823125325/http://www.bim.ba/templates/birnbih/img/tim_for_truth.pdf|archive-date=2011-08-23|dead-url=yes|df=}} 2. ^{{cite news|title=Memic et al: Witnessing the Shooting of Captives|url=http://www.bim.ba/en/265/10/32163/|newspaper=Balkan Investigative Reporting Network|date=11 April 2011|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120424025459/http://www.bim.ba/en/265/10/32163/|archivedate=24 April 2012|df=}} 3. ^{{cite news|title=Edin Dzeko Agrees to be Extradited to Bosnia and Herzegovina|url=http://www.bim.ba/en/296/10/33807/|newspaper=Balkan Investigative Reporting Network|date=16 November 2011|access-date=2011-12-21|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120424025540/http://www.bim.ba/en/296/10/33807/|archive-date=2012-04-24|dead-url=yes|df=}} 4. ^{{cite news|last=Sito-Sucic|first=Daria|title=U.S. extradites war crimes suspect to Bosnia|url=https://www.reuters.com/article/2011/12/20/us-bosnia-us-extradition-idUSTRE7BJ1IA20111220|newspaper=Reuters|date=20 December 2011}} 5. ^{{cite news|title=US extradites war crimes suspect to Bosnia to face charges he killed civilians|url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/us-extradites-war-crimes-suspect-to-bosnia-to-face-charges-he-killed-civilians/2011/12/20/gIQAjv856O_story.html|newspaper=Washington Post|date=20 December 2011}} 6. ^{{cite news|title=US extradites war crimes suspect to Bosnia|url=http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45799565/ns/world_news-europe/t/us-extradites-war-crimes-suspect-bosnia/|newspaper=MSNBC|date=27 December 2011}} 7. ^{{cite news|title=Custody for Rasema Handanovic requested|url=http://www.bim.ba/en/302/10/34133/|newspaper=Balkan Investigative Reporting Network|date=28 December 2011|access-date=2012-01-06|archive-url=https://archive.is/20120719192630/http://www.bim.ba/en/302/10/34133/|archive-date=2012-07-19|dead-url=yes|df=}} 8. ^{{cite news|title=Bosnian woman pleads guilty to war crimes|url=https://montrealgazette.com/news/Bosnian+woman+pleads+guilty+crimes/6533343/story.html|newspaper=The Montreal Gazette|date=28 April 2012}}{{Dead link|date=July 2018 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=no }} 9. ^{{cite news|title=Bosnian war crimes court jails first woman|url=https://www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/30/us-bosnia-warcrimes-idUSBRE83T0KK20120430|newspaper=Reuter|date=30 April 2012}} External links
