It was founded in 1988. Foundation, Growth and Development (1988-2015)Universidad Mayor opened its first academic programs in 1988 with bachelor's degrees in Architecture and Engineering with 3 majors; Industrial Engineering, Computer Science and Electronics Engineering which were offered at its Main Campus in Américo Vespucio. Within a few years, Universidad Mayor became the first private university in Chile to offer Agronomy and Forest Engineering (1989), Veterinary Medicine (1991), Dentistry (1997) and a Medical Residency Program (1998). In the year 2000, Universidad Mayor also became the first private university in Chile to open a regional campus in the city of Temuco, with degrees in Finance & Accounting, Law, Journalism, Social Work and Psychology adding to a whole range of Baccalaureate Programs available in Santiago including Graphic, Industrial and Interior Design, Art, Business Administration, Nursing, Kinesiology, Obstetrics, Nutrition, Phonoaudiology, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education (1-6), Special Education, Physical Education and Spanish Language and Communications. Continuing with its pioneering efforts, in 2013 Universidad Mayor opened a Center of Genomics and Bioinformatics which operates in cooperation with the School of Science, offering the first and only PhD program in Integrative Genomics in Chile [1] Today, Universidad Mayor is an established educational institution offering 64 Baccalaureate and over 170 Graduate Programs including Master and Doctoral degrees as well as Non-degree programs (Diplomas, Certificates, Licenses, Short Courses and Online Learning) in regular Academic and Continuing Education throughout 11 campuses.
