The University of Boyacá is a private, coeducational university based in the city of Tunja, Boyacá, Colombia.

History

Boyacá University was founded in the city of Tunja the September 22, 1979, with the desire of a native Guateque scholar, Dr. Osmar Correal Cabral, and a Bogotá economist, Dr. Rosita Payeras Cuervo.

The first headquarters was located in the traditional Passage Vargas as "Higher Education Corporation of Boyacá" which later was transferred to the headquarters of Santander Park, where two technological programs are consolidated.

Some years passed and in 1983 the Institute focused its seat in the Senate Santo Domingo, at which offered more than ten academic undergraduate and two graduate.

In 1993 there was a change of its legal nature, obtaining the status of "University of Boyacá" year in which their directives begin construction of the first own building in the central campus of the Muisca.

Once the institution fulfilled all the requirements and demands of the Ministry of Education concerning the change of character, September 16, 2004, University recognition is done by Decree 2910 of the Office of the Minister of National Education.

Currently, the university campus in Tunja has 25,174 sqm of built area, consists of three buildings for classrooms, the small square building, two buildings of multiple resources where the science and engineering laboratories and basic sciences; a central academic and administrative building, a biological sciences building, a building of laboratories and workshops Fashion Design, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Psychology. Also, the institution has an auditorium with capacity for 512 people, two modern auditoriums; one with capacity for 350 people and one for 300 people; and Conference Room with capacity for 150 attendees. At the beginning of 2013 is put into operation the administrative building with an area of 2000 square meters.

Additional buildings on the campus are also an academic agora, a central square and a sports area comprising two multiple courts. This space is complemented by a Coliseum with capacity for 1,000 people; It has a multipurpose court, gym and aerobics room. In 2011, the University inaugurates its own sports campus with more than 36,000 m², designed for the practice of sports such as tennis field, football, volleyball, basketball, microfútbol and athletics, among others.

The University of Boyacá, in 2011, extends its academic coverage in the department of Boyaca Sogamoso inaugurating the headquarters of the programs of Law and Political Sciences, Environmental Engineering and Architecture, Psychology Specialization in Project Management. Also, he began the headquarters of Chiquinquirá with the programs of Law and Political Science and Administration and International Business.

The University offers 20 undergraduate professional programs, which are before the Ministry of Education with High Quality Accreditation Sanitary Engineering, Architecture, Physiotherapy and Systems Engineering. Also, 19 graduate programs and the Master of Urban Planning. In addition, 339 signed and develop cooperation agreements for joint projects, exchange and permanent mobility of teachers, students and researchers. The University of Boyacá has gained a high degree of leadership both nationally and internationally.
