The University of La Verne College of Law is a private, ABA-approved law school in Ontario, California. Founded in 1970, it is part of the University of La Verne in the Inland Empire.

History

In 2001, the law school established a new campus in downtown Ontario. It is near the Ontario Civic Center and the city library.

The school is not a member of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS), but has paid a fee to receive AALS services.[5]

Academic profile

Degrees offered

The school offers the Juris Doctor (JD) law degree. This requires 88 credits which can be done on a full-time basis over 3 years or on a part-time basis over 4 years.

The school also offers two dual degree programs in conjunction with the University of La Verne College of Business and Public Management, the Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration (JD/MBA) and Juris Doctor/Master of Public Administration (JD/MPA).

Accreditation and ABA approval

On August 29, 2011, the school announced it received accreditation from the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California.[6]

The College of Law first received provisional approval by the American Bar Association in 2006.[7] Full approval was denied by the ABA in June 2011, as the first-time bar pass rate had not improved sufficiently.[8] In March 2012, the ABA again granted provisional approval through 2017 following an extensive review of the law school’s program of legal education, faculty, admissions and student services, facilities and bar pass rate.[9][10]

On March 14, 2016, The University of La Verne College of Law received full accreditation from the American Bar Association.[11]

Rankings

{{see also|Law school rankings in the United States}}

In The National Jurist: The Magazine for Law Students, La Verne Law was listed with a "B+" in the March 2011 "Diversity Honor Roll".[12]
