It is accessible via the Howe Sound Crest Trail and a direct route from Lions Bay. The mountain is so named because of an "unnecessary" ascent over this mountain to reach The Lions.[1] In 2014, a rockslide killed 7-year-old Erin Kate Moore as she was hiking with a group on Unnecessary Mountain.[3] A second peak, also named Unnecessary Mountain, is located in Alberta northwest of the town of Pincher Creek.[4] References1. ^1 2 {{cite bivouac|id=2101|name=Unnecessary Mountain|accessdate=2009-11-27}} 2. ^{{cite bcgnis|id=39652|title=Unnecessary Mountain|accessdate=2009-12-25}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/erin-kate-moore-7-remembered-at-west-vancouver-memorial-1.2889366|title=Erin Kate Moore, 7, remembered at West Vancouver memorial|date=4 January 2015|author=CBC News|accessdate=4 January 2015}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://peakery.com/unnecessary-mountain-canada/|title=Unnecessary Mountain |date=|author= Peakery.com|accessdate=19 January 2016}} 1 : Mountains of British Columbia |
