It originally offered occupational health care, including preventive care, pre-employment and post-offer exams and screening, and return-to-work rehabilitative care; it now also operates urgent care clinics. [3] The firm is a wholly owned, for-profit subsidiary of Dignity Health.[4] As of July 2014, it had 218 work sites in 19 states and more than 3,300 employees.[5] HistoryThe firm was started in 1995. In 2001, it purchased the occupational medicine division on HealthSouth for a reported $30 million,[6] adding 99 centers, more than doubling U.S. HealthWorks operations and making it one of the largest provider networks in the United States along with Concentra.[7] The firm moved its headquarters from Alpharetta, Georgia, to Valencia, California, in November 2007.[8] n February 2011, it acquired two medical centers in south Florida.[9] In July 2011 it acquired three NorthWorks Occupational Health Centers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region.[10] In October 2011, it acquired four Nashville-based medical centers and seven worksite locations operated by Tennessee Urgent Care Associates.[11] In January 2013, it acquired the three Advanced Occupational Medicine Specialists (AOMS) healthcare centers in the Chicago region.[12] In June 2013, it began a partnership with Indiana University Health for collaboration in providing occupational health services, giving it the assets of eight free standing IU Health clinics in the Indianapolis area.[13] Also in June 2013, it acquired the assets of seven OHS-Compcare clinics and two worksites in the Kansas City area. [14] In June 2014, it acquired the California Occupational Clinic in Los Angeles.[15] In June 2014, it acquired five Atlanta-area centers from Choice Care Occupational Medicine and Orthopedics.[16] Dignity Health acquired U.S. HealthWorks in 2012, the financial terms were not disclosed.[3] Since its acquisition by Dignity Health, the firm has acquired dozens of occupational health and urgent care centers across the U.S.[17] Regulatory actionIn 2003, U.S. HealthWorks agreed to pay $900,000 to the California Department of Insurance following a three-year investigation of 25 facilities in California. It was alleged that the firm did not always file a "Doctor's First Report of Injury" as required by California law, which would distort the risk experience used by insurance underwriters to calculate premiums. In the agreement, the firm did not admit liability.[18] References1. ^1 {{cite press release |title=U.S. HealthWorks Acquires Advanced Occupational Medicine Specialists Three Chicago Centers |url=http://www.ushealthworks.com/173-News.html |publisher=U.S. HealthWorks |date=January 2, 2013 |accessdate=February 19, 2013}} 2. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.ushealthworks.com/About_Corp.html |title=Corporate Information |publisher=U.S. HealthWorks |accessdate=January 5, 2010}} 3. ^1 {{cite news |last=Robertson |first=Kathy |url=http://www.bizjournals.com/sacramento/news/2012/08/15/dignity-health-completes-us-healthworks.html |title=Dignity Health Completes Purchase of U.S. HealthWorks |newspaper=Sacramento Business Journal |date=August 15, 2012 |accessdate=September 23, 2014}} 4. ^{{cite news |author=Kathleen Roney |publisher=Becker's Hospital Review |date=August 17, 2012 |url=http://www.beckershospitalreview.com/hospital-transactions-and-valuation/dignity-health-closes-acquisition-of-us-healthworks.html |title=Dignity Health Closes Acquisition of U.S. HealthWorks |accessdate=September 23, 2014}} 5. ^{{cite press release |publisher=U.S. HealthWorks |date=July 1, 2014 |url=http://www.ushealthworks.com/188-News.html |title=U.S. HealthWorks Acquires Choice Care's Five Atlanta Area Centers |accessdate=September 23, 2014}} 6. ^{{cite news |title=For the record |date=7 May 2001 |work=Modern Healthcare |page=17 }} 7. ^{{cite news |last=Robertson |first=Kathy |date=May 4, 2001 |title=Deal boosts local clout of occupational health firm |newspaper=Sacramento Business Journal |volume=18 |issue=8 |pages=11 |issn=1097-7538}} 8. ^{{cite press release|title=U.S. HealthWorks Opens New Headquarters Facility|date=November 5, 2007|publisher=Business Wire}} 9. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.reuters.com/article/2011/02/01/idUS198878+01-Feb-2011+BW20110201|title=U.S. HealthWorks Acquires South Florida's Medwork 84, Medstar Medical Centers|date=February 1, 2011|accessdate=September 23, 2014|publisher=Reuters}} 10. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2011/07/27/us-healthworks-buys-northworks.html|title=U.S. HealthWorks buys NorthWorks Occupational Health|author=Ed Stych|date=July 27, 2011|newspaper=Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal|accessdate=September 23, 2014}} 11. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/news/2011/10/17/us-healthworks-acquires-four.html|title=U.S. HealthWorks acquires four Nashville-area medical centers|date=October 17, 2011|newspaper=Nashville Business Journal|accessdate=September 23, 2014}} 12. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.bizjournals.com/sacramento/news/2013/01/02/us-healthworks-acquires-centers-chicago.html|title=U.S. HealthWorks adds three occupational medicine centers|author=Kathy Robertson|date=January 2, 2013|newspaper=Sacramento Business Journal|accessdate=September 23, 2014}} 13. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.marketwatch.com/story/us-healthworks-announces-addition-of-eight-occupational-healthcare-clinics-in-indiana-2013-06-07|title=U.S. HealthWorks Announces Addition of Eight Occupational Healthcare Clinics in Indiana|author=Bill Halldin|date=June 7, 2013|accessdate=September 23, 2014|publisher=MarketWatch|agency=Business Wire}} 14. ^{{cite news|url=http://kcmetro.com/2013061857863/local-news/lenexa-ks/us-healthworks-acquires-assets-of-seven-ohs-compcare-locations-adding-missouri-kansas-medical-centers.html|title=U.S. HealthWorks Acquires Assets of Seven OHS-Compcare Locations, Adding Missouri, Kansas Medical Centers|date=June 18, 2011|accessdate=September 23, 2014|publisher=KC Metro.com}} 15. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.signalscv.com/archives/121994/|title=US HealthWorks gets more health care practices|date=June 18, 2014|newspaper=The Santa Clarita Valley Signal|accessdate=September 23, 2014}} 16. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/2014/07/01/u-s-healthworks-expands-atlanta-footprint.html|title=U.S. HealthWorks expands Atlanta footprint|author=Phil W.
