Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Engineering College of Information & TechnologyDr Bhimrao Ambedkar Engineering College of Information & Technology, Bijnore have been established as per G.O. NO-149 A/26-B.Pra.-2009-14(21)/2008 dated 02-03-2009 of Government of Uttar Pradesh. It is the only constituent and Government College of Mahamaya Technical University, Noida. It is located at a distance of 4 km from Chandpur Tehsil Headquarters in the district of Bijnore, Uttar Pradesh. HistoryThe College campus for the session 2012-2013 is Harcourt Butler Technological Institute which dates back to the 1920s when there was a growing realization of the need for advancement in science and technology among the people of what was then called the United Provinces. Consequently, the Indian Industrial Commission at its Nainital meeting proposed two institutions for engineering — one at Roorkee and the other at Kanpur. To boost entrepreneurship, accelerate industrial development, to create a sound environment for contemporary applied research and to inculcate scientific and technical temper, an institute called `Government Research Institute, Cawnpore' was started in 1920. It was housed in two rooms of what was called Sher Wali Kothi. The old majestic building is still intact at the north-west corner of the Company Bagh crossing, Nawabganj. Dr Annett was then the principal of the Opium Research Laboratory of which the new institute was an adjunct. Little is known of the early history of Bijnor. District Bijnor is related to Mahabharat. There is a Vidur Kuti in Bijnor. In the time of Mughal emperor Akbar, Bijnor formed part of the Mughal Empire. However, in the early part of the 18th century, the Rohilla Pashtuns established their independence in the country called by them Rohilkhand; and about 1748 the Rohilla chief Ali Mohammed Khan made his first annexations in Bijnor, the rest of which soon fell under the Rohilla domination. The northern districts were granted by Ali Mohammed Khan to Najib Khan, who gradually extended his influence west of the Ganges and at Delhi, receiving the title of Najib-ud-daula and becoming paymaster of the royal forces. His success, however, raised up powerful enemies against him, and at their instigation the Marathas invaded Bijnor. This was the beginning of a feud which continued for years. Najib, indeed, held his own, and for the part played by him in the victory of Panipat was made vizier of the empire. After his death in 1770, however, his son Zabita Khan was defeated by the Marathas, who overran all Rohailkhand. About the cityBijnor is the headquarters of District Bijnor in Western Uttar Pradesh, on the Moradabad-Hardwar Section of the Northern Railway.
