L. "Stub" Stewart, the station was named for a family of early residents in the area.[3] There is a Nathan B. Walden listed in the 1880 Census for the Cottage Grove Precinct.[3] The 1973 film Emperor of the North was shot in the Walden area along the rail line.[4] The Brumbaugh covered bridge, a National Register of Historic Places property, once stood near Walden, spanning Mosby Creek.[5][6] It was dismantled and the wood used in the Centennial Covered Bridge in Cottage Grove.[7] The Stewart and Mosby Creek bridges still stand in the Walden area, as well as the historic Walden Store & Gas Station building, built circa 1900.[4] The store closed in about 2002.[8] Notable peopleOpal Whiteley and her grandparents lived in Walden and Opal mentioned the area in her book The Diary of Opal Whiteley.[9]References1. ^{{cite gnis |id= 1153709|name= Walden|entrydate= May 22, 1986 |accessdate= November 15, 2015}} 2. ^{{cite book |title= Oregon Atlas & Gazetteer |edition= 7th |year= 2008 |publisher= DeLorme |location= Yarmouth, Maine |isbn= 0-89933-347-8 |page= 47}} 3. ^1 2 {{Cite OGN|7th|page=1000}} 4. ^1 {{cite web |url= http://heritagedata.prd.state.or.us/historic/index.cfm?do=main.loadFile&load=63188.pdf |title= Walden Store & Gas Station |publisher= Oregon Parks and Recreation Department |work= Oregon Historic Sites Database |accessdate= November 15, 2015}} 5. ^{{cite web |url= http://heritagedata.prd.state.or.us/historic/index.cfm?do=v.dsp_siteSummary&resultDisplay=63187 |title= Brumbaugh Bridge |publisher= Oregon Parks and Recreation Department |work= Oregon Historic Sites Database |accessdate= November 15, 2015}} 6. ^{{cite web |url= http://heritagedata.prd.state.or.us/historic/index.cfm?do=main.loadFile&load=63187.pdf |title= Brumbaugh Covered Bridge |publisher= Oregon State Historic Preservation Office |accessdate= November 15, 2015}} 7. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.lanecounty.org/about/pages/centennial.aspx |title= Centennial Covered Bridge |publisher= Lane County, Oregon |accessdate= November 15, 2015}} 8. ^{{cite web |url= http://www.lanecounty.org/departments/pw/lmd/landuse/groupdocuments/planning%20commission%20minutes/february%207,%202012.pdf |title= Minutes of the Lane County Planning Commission |date= February 7, 2012 |page= 4 |publisher= Lane County, Oregon |accessdate= November 15, 2015}} 9. ^{{cite web |url= http://members.efn.org/~opal/opaltour.htm |title= Visit Opal's Fairyland |publisher= Discover the Magic & Mystery of Opal |last= Williamson |first= Stephen |accessdate= November 15, 2015}} External links
