He served as the head football coach at Sioux Falls College, now the University of Sioux Falls, from 1935 to 1936 and at Massachusetts State College, now the University of Massachusetts Amherst, from 1941 to 1942 and again in 1946. Hargesheimer played football at the University of Minnesota, from which he graduated in 1934, as a back for the Golden Gophers in 1932 and 1933. After coaching football at Sioux Falls College in 1935 and 1936, he was the backfield coach and varsity basketball coach at Oberlin College from 1937 to 1940. He then coached football, basketball, and track at Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Illinois, before taking the appointment of head football coach and Professor of Physical Education at Massachusetts State College in January 1941.[2] Head coaching recordCollege football{{CFB Yearly Record Start | type = coach | team = | conf = | bowl = | poll = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead| name = Sioux Falls Cougars | conf = | startyear = 1935 | endyear = 1936 }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1935 | name = Sioux Falls | overall = 4–4 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1936 | name = Sioux Falls | overall = 0–7–1 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Sioux Falls | overall = 4–11–1 | confrecord = }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Massachusetts State Aggies | conf = Independent | startyear = 1941 | endyear = 1942 }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1941 | name = Massachusetts State | overall = 3–4–1 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1942 | name = Massachusetts State | overall = 2–5 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Massachusetts State Aggies | conf = Independent | startyear = 1946 | endyear = single }}{{CFB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | year = 1946 | name = Massachusetts State | overall = 6–2 | conference = | confstanding = | bowlname = | bowloutcome = | bcsbowl = | ranking = no | ranking2 = no }}{{CFB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Massachusetts State | overall = 11–11–1 | confrecord = }}{{CFB Yearly Record End | overall = 15–22–2 | bowls = no | poll = no | polltype = | legend = no }} College basketball{{CBB Yearly Record Start| type = coach | conference = | postseason = | poll = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Oberlin Yeomen | conference = Independent | startyear = 1937 | endyear = 1940 }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1937–38 | name = Oberlin | overall = 3–10 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1938–39 | name = Oberlin | overall = 3–10 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1939–40 | name = Oberlin | overall = 3–11 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Oberlin | overall = 9–31 | confrecord = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Massachusetts State Aggies | conference = Independent | startyear = 1941 | endyear = 1943 }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1941–42 | name = Massachusetts State | overall = 8–6 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | season = 1942–43 | name = Massachusetts State | overall = 5–8 | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subhead | name = Massachusetts State Aggies | conference = Independent | startyear = 1946 | endyear = 1947 }}{{CBB Yearly Record Entry | championship = | season = 1946–47 | name = Massachusetts State | overall = 0–7{{#tag:ref|Lorin Ball coached the final nine games of the season.|group="n"|name="1946–47season"}} | conference = | confstanding = | postseason = }}{{CBB Yearly Record Subtotal | name = Massachusetts State | overall = 13–21 | confrecord = }}{{CBB Yearly Record End | overall = 22–52 | legend = no }} Notes1. ^University of Massachusetts Amherst - Index Yearbook - Class of 1947, Page 20 2. ^{{cite news |title=Caraway Successor Named |url=https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1941/01/26/85198574.pdf |newspaper=The New York Times |agency=Associated Press |date=January 26, 1941 |accessdate=January 5, 2011}} References{{Reflist}}External links
