WFMB airs a country music format and is owned by Neuhoff Corp.,[3] through licensee Neuhoff Media Springfield, LLC.[4] HistoryThe station began broadcasting in July 1965.[1] The station's studios and transmitter were located at the First National Bank Building at 5th and Adams.[5][1] The station was owned by Capital Broadcasting.[1][5] In 1972, the station's studios and transmitter were moved to the Myers Brothers Building.[5] In 1980, the station was sold to Springfield Advertising Co. for $1,275,000.[5][6] In 1981, the station moved to its current location on the 3000 block of South 4th Street.[5][7] In 1989, the station was sold to Neuhoff Broadcasting, along with AM 1450 WCVS, for $4,250,000.[8] In 1996, the station was sold to Patterson Broadcasting, which, after a series of acquisitions, would become part of Clear Channel Communications.[9][10] In 2007, as Clear Channel was selling most of its stations in smaller markets, Neuhoff bought back the Springfield stations they had sold, including WFMB-FM.[10] The station has long aired a country music format.[11][12][13][14] References1. ^1 2 3 [https://www.americanradiohistory.com/Archive-BC-YB/1967/B%20all%20Radio%201967%20YB.pdf 1967 Broadcasting Yearbook].
