He was the second son of Revd William Wollaston (1659–1724), the philosopher, and his wife Catherine Charlton.[1] He studied at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge and King's College, Cambridge.[2] He was elected Member of Parliament for {{constlk|Ipswich}} between 1733 and 1734. FamilyWollaston married Elizabeth Fauquier, daughter of John Francis Fauquier, in 1728.[2] He inherited the manor of Finborough from his elder brother in 1729.
