The new neoclassical courthouse was designed by B.F. Smith and subsequently built by his company. The courthouse is the most significant building in the small community of Elizabeth, with a population of less than 1000. The brick courthouse features a two-story columned pediment and is surmounted by a clock tower.[2] References1. ^{{NRISref|2008a}} {{National Register of Historic Places in West Virginia}}{{WestVirginia-NRHP-stub}}2. ^{{Cite journal|title=National Register of Historic Places Nomination: Wirt County Courthouse|url=http://www.wvculture.org/shpo/nr/pdf/wirt/04000918.pdf |format=pdf|date=June 2004 |author=Alan Rowe and Erin Riebe with Barbara E.
