EstablishmentWollega University is one of the public higher educational institutions established at Nekemte in 2007. It is located 328 km West of Addis Ababa on the outskirts of Nekemte town on 150 hectares of land. It is surrounded by evergreen forest with views of mount Komto.{{fact|date=May 2018}} At present,{{when|date=May 2018}} the University, runs 60 undergraduate, and 17 graduate programs in three different campuses at Nekemte, Gimbi and Shambu towns. On Sunday, May 27, 2007, thousands of Ethiopians including Abadula Gemeda, the then President of the Oromia Region, gathered in Nekemte to celebrate the official inauguration of Wollega University. The institution is one of the new Public Universities that was to be established under the University Capacity Building Program (UCBP).[1] Undergraduates and facultyWU started out with 1600 students. According to the UCBP, it currently has 4,048 pupils.[2][3] Wollega is found in western part of Oromia. The institution features 32 departments, with additional facilities planned. Wollega University also provides medical laboratory science training.[4] After renovations, the institution is expected to accommodate 12,000 students. CampusesCurrently Wollega University has three campuses: Wollega University Nekemte Campus (Main Campus) located in East Wollega Zone, Gimbi Campus (College of Social Sciences, Natural & Environmental Sciences) located in West Wollega Zone, and Shambu Campus (College of Agricultural Sciences) located in Horro Guduru Wollega Zone. From these respective campuses on 29 June 2013, 2492 students with various field of studies both in 1st and 2nd degree have graduated.
