The racial makeup of the town was 97.9% White, 0.5% African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.8% of the population. There were 621 households of which 31.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.4% were married couples living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 28.3% were non-families. 21.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.86. The median age in the town was 41.6 years. 21.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 26.9% were from 25 to 44; 32.1% were from 45 to 64; and 12.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 50.5% male and 49.5% female. 2000 censusAs of the census[7] of 2000, there were 1,394 people, 557 households, and 398 families residing in the town. The population density was 45.1 people per square mile (17.4/km²). There were 602 housing units at an average density of 19.5 per square mile (7.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.13% White, 0.29% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.22% from other races, and 1.15% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.43% of the population. There were 557 households out of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.5% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.5% were non-families. 20.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 2.88. In the town, the population was spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.7 males.
