HistoryAt 990 kHz WRFM (then WERK) first signed on in 1965 from a 90-acre 6 tower array south of Muncie. The original WERK "990 Werk" featured a Top 40 format, built by the Poorman family, who operated an ad agency. Wife Bettie is still well at 88 years{{when|date=March 2013}}. Bill Shirk later operated the station.{{citation needed|date=March 2013}} In 1999, the owners donated the license to a nonprofit, but did not include the 90 acre transmitter facility.[2] Electronic Applications Radio Service acquired the frequency as a donation and resurrected the former daytime-only station by means of an STA (special temporary authority) granted by the FCC in 1998 and returned to the air with 67 watts.[3] It was granted the callsign WLHN in 1999.{{citation needed|date=March 2013}} The callsign was switched to WRFM in March 2003, with Electronic Applications Radio Service being the new licensee. Greenfield-based Indiana Community Radio Corporation (ICRC) which operates WJCF-FM 88.1-FM in Morristown acquired station from Electronic Applications Radio Service. After the acquisition by ICRC, the station broadcast a news and information format as "True Talk For Indiana" then flipped to oldies in 2009 utilizing Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel, which was a commercial 24/7 satellite music service offered by Citadel Media. WRFM also broadcasts via an FM translator W230AR 93.9Mhz in Muncie, IN with 250 watts. Today the station broadcasts a simulcast of WJCF-FM (for WhereJesus Comes First). Call sign historyWRFM was previously the famed WERK Muncie. Home Of Tom Cochran David Letterman and Bill Shirk. The WRFM callsign was first used in 1957 at a station on 105.1 MHz in New York City, for a station owned by William Reumann (named after his initials). After WRFM was sold, the call sign was changed. That station is now WWPR-FM. Later it was adopted by a station which is currently WACC (AM).
