The station is owned by Nelson Diaz. It formerly aired a Christian radio format;[1] it now broadcasts a Spanish Tropical format programmed by Radio Sharon Foundation. Its programming is also heard on translator stations in Providence, W229AN (93.7 FM) and W235CN (94.9 FM). The station has been assigned these call letters by the Federal Communications Commission since July 7, 2006.[2] History1940s1947The station was started as a 250-watt daytimer, WRIB with studios at the old Narragansett Hotel.[3] 1950s1952WRIB increased its daytime power to the current 1 kilowatt. It was still a daytime-only station at this point. 2000s2006Faith Christian Center bought WRIB & changed its format and callsign. The station was abruptly taken off air at 12:30 on July 7, angering many of WRIB's former time brokers.[4][5] Some shows continue on other stations (e.g.: the Armenian Radio Hour is now on WARA) but others disappeared. 2010s2017On the morning of Friday, June 23, 2017, the station reported to be going off the air soon; they then went silent.[6][7][8][9] On November 29, 2017 WSTL returned to the air with Spanish tropical, branded as "Mega 94.9" (simulcast on FM translator W235CN 94.9 FM Providence).[10] Translators{{RadioTranslators| callsign = WSTL | width = | call1 = W229AN | freq1 = 93.7 | fid1 = 156667 | watts1 = 30 | class1 = D | city1 = Providence, Rhode Island | coord1 = {{coord|41|49|14|N|71|23|1|W|region:US-RI_type:landmark|name=W229AN}} | notes1 = | call2 = W235CN | freq2 = 94.9 | fid2 = 41191 | watts2 = 250 | class2 = D | city2 = Providence, Rhode Island | coord2 = {{coord|41|49|39.6|N|71|22|8.8|W|region:US-RI_type:landmark|name=W235CN}} | notes2 = }} References1. ^{{cite web |title=Winter 2008 Station Information Profile |work=Arbitron |url=http://www1.arbitron.com/sip/displaySip.do?srvy_id=WI08&surveyID=WI08&band=am&callLetter=WSTL}} 2. ^1 {{cite web |title=Call Sign History |work=FCC Media Bureau CDBS Public Access Database |url=http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/call_hist.pl?Facility_id=9183&Callsign=WSTL}} 3. ^Boston Radio essays.
