As an environmentalist and humanitarian, Jadot co-ordinated Greenpeace actions in France between 2002 and 2008 but also headed the Alliance pour la planète and was a key player in the 2008 Grenelle Environnement Accord. In 2009, he announced that he was leaving Greenpeace to lead the Europe Écologie list in the West constituency ahead of the 2009 European elections. His list won 16.65% and he was elected to the European Parliament, along with Nicole Kiil-Nielsen. He was reelected as MEP in the French Ouest constituency, during the European elections of 2014. In 2016, Jadot was selected by Europe Ecology – The Greens to stand as their candidate in the 2017 French presidential election after defeating fellow MEP Michèle Rivasi in the second round of primary voting.[2] Though Jadot secured 496 sponsorships just before the opening of the signature collection period,[3] he announced that he would withdraw his candidacy and endorsed Socialist nominee Benoît Hamon, the pair having agreed on a common platform;[4] their alliance was consummated when EELV primary voters approved the agreement on 26 February.[5] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.europarl.europa.eu/members/expert/committees/view.do?language=EN&id=96740 |title=Your MEPs : Yannick JADOT |publisher=European parliament |accessdate=July 9, 2011}} {{Greenpeace |state=expanded}}{{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Jadot, Yannick}}2. ^{{Cite news|url=http://www.politico.eu/article/french-greens-yannick-jadot-mep-for-2017-presidential-race/|title=French Greens pick MEP Jadot for 2017 presidential race|date=2016-11-07|newspaper=POLITICO|language=en-US|access-date=2016-11-27}} 3. ^{{cite news|author1=Bastien Bonnefous|author2=Raphaëlle Besse Desmoulières|title=Benoît Hamon et Yannick Jadot tardent à célébrer leur mariage|url=http://www.lemonde.fr/election-presidentielle-2017/article/2017/02/21/benoit-hamon-et-yannick-jadot-tardent-a-celebrer-leur-mariage_5082933_4854003.html|newspaper=Le Monde|date=21 February 2017|accessdate=22 February 2017}} 4. ^{{cite news|title=En direct : l’écologiste Yannick Jadot retire sa candidature à l’élection présidentielle et soutient Benoît Hamon|url=http://www.lemonde.fr/election-presidentielle-2017/live/2017/02/23/en-direct-posez-vos-questions-sur-l-actualite-politique_5084024_4854003.html?highlight=726867426|newspaper=Le Monde|date=23 February 2017|accessdate=23 February 2017}} 5. ^{{cite news|title=Présidentielle : les électeurs écologistes approuvent l’accord entre Hamon et Jadot|url=http://www.lemonde.fr/politique/article/2017/02/26/presidentielle-les-electeurs-ecologistes-approuvent-a-pres-de-80-l-accord-entre-hamon-et-jadot_5085810_823448.html|newspaper=Le Monde|date=26 February 2017|accessdate=26 February 2017}} 6 : 1967 births|Living people|Paris Dauphine University alumni|Europe Ecology – The Greens MEPs|MEPs for West France 2014–19|People associated with Greenpeace |
