The Yatina Hotel was also built that same year.[9] Early hopes for the new town were disappointed in 1877 when a promised railway extension bypassed the town.[9] In 1886, Yatina's population was 80, with an estimate of 100 residents the next year.[9] Boundaries for the locality were created on 16 December 1999 which includes the site of the Government Town of Yatina. The portion within the Northern Areas Council, being the southern side of locality, was added on 12 April 2001. Part of Yatina on its western side was 'excluded' and added to the adjoining locality of Tarcowie on 2 August 2012 following a request from residents.[4][1] The name derives from the Aboriginal name of a nearby black rock.[10] Land use within the locality is ’primary production’ and is concerned with “agricultural production and the grazing of stock on relatively large holdings.”[11] The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Yatina had a population of 29.[2] Yatina is located within the federal division of Grey, the state electoral district of Stuart, and the local government areas of the District Council of Orroroo Carrieton and the Northern Areas Council.[7][6][1] References1. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 7 {{cite web|title=Search results for "Yatina, LOCB" with the following datasets selected - 'Suburbs and Localities', 'Counties', 'Government Towns', 'Local Government Areas', 'SA Government Regions' and 'Gazetteer' |url= http://location.sa.gov.au/viewer/?map=roads&x=138.73621&y=-32.9339&z=12&uids=19,2,115,11,20,105&pinx=138.667270&piny=-32.929520&pinTitle=Location&pinText=Yatina,+Locb |website=Location SA Map Viewer |publisher=Government of South Australia |accessdate=11 December 2018}} {{Towns and localities in District Council of Orroroo Carrieton}}{{Northern Areas Council localities}}2. ^1 {{Census 2016 AUS|id= SSC41665 |name= Yatina (state suburb)|accessdate=11 December 2018|quick=on}} 3. ^{{cite web |last1=Musgrave |first1=A |title=Unititled proclamation re the Township of Yatina. |url=http://www8.austlii.edu.au/au/other/sa_gazette/1874/29/1329.pdf |website=The South Australian Government Gazette |publisher=Government of South Australia |accessdate=10 December 2018 |page=1329 |date=16 July 1874}} 4. ^1 {{cite web |last1=Kentish |first1=P.M. |title=GEOGRAPHICAL NAMES ACT 1991 Notice to Assign Names and Boundaries to Places (in the District Council of Orroroo/Carrieton) |url=http://www8.austlii.edu.au/au/other/sa_gazette/1999/183/3429.pdf |website=The South Australian Government Gazette |publisher=Government of South Australia |accessdate=10 December 2018 |page=3429 |date=16 December 1999}} 5. ^1 {{cite web|title= Postcode for Yatina, South Australia|url= https://postcodes-australia.com/areas/sa/country+south+australia/yatina |publisher=Postcodes Australia|accessdate=11 December 2018}} 6. ^1 {{cite web|title= Electoral district of Stuart |url= https://www.ecsa.sa.gov.au/publications/electoral-district-of-stuart-pdf/download |publisher=Electoral Commission SA|accessdate=12 February 2018}} 7. ^1 {{cite web|title=Federal electoral division of Grey |url=http://www.aec.gov.au/profiles/sa/files/2011/2011-aec-a4-map-sa-grey.pdf |publisher=Australian Electoral Commission|accessdate=12 February 2018}} 8. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=Monthly climate statistics: Summary statistics YONGALA (nearest weather station) |url=http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_024048.shtml |publisher=Commonwealth of Australia , Bureau of Meteorology|accessdate=11 December 2018}} 9. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=Yatina|url=http://www.southaustralianhistory.com.au/yatina.htm|work=South Australian History|publisher=Flinders Ranges Research|accessdate=10 November 2010}} 10. ^{{cite web|title=Yatina|url=http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/manning/pn/xyz/y2.htm#yatina|work=Place Names of South Australia|publisher=State Library of South Australia|accessdate=10 November 2010}} 11. ^{{cite web |title=Development Plan - Orroroo Carrieton Council, Consolidated – 22 November 2012 |url=http://www.orroroo.sa.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/Orroroo_Carrieton_Council_Development_Plan.pdf |publisher=Government of South Australia |accessdate=11 December 2018|pages=105 and 127}} 1 : Towns in South Australia |
