It is located in the north of the republic. The area of the district is {{convert|1362.1|km2|sp=us}}.[3] Its administrative center is the town of Yelabuga[4] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[5] Population: {{ru-census2010|10,904|;}} 10,785 (2002 Census);[6] {{su-census1989|9,957|.}} Administrative and municipal statusWithin the framework of administrative divisions, Yelabuzhsky District is one of the forty-three in the republic.[4] The town of Yelabuga serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a town of republic significance[4]—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[5] As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Yelabuzhsky Municipal District, with the town of republic significance of Yelabuga being incorporated within it as Yelabuga Urban Settlement.[2] People
