Kojima was born in Tokyo during World War II, the son of Kazuo and Sakae Kojima. He graduated from Tokyo Metropolitan Hibiya High School.[1] In 1965, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Tokyo in mechanical engineering.[2][3] He joined the Mitsusbishi Corporation that same year and continued with them his entire career. Kojima held various positions in the corporation in Tokyo, in Saudi Arabia and the United States.[3][4] In 1995 he was appointed to Mitsubishi's Board of Directors as an inside director (取締役).[2] In 2001, he went from being managing director of the corporation's merchant banking group to vice president; and in 2004 he moved up to president and CEO, when then president Mikio Sasaki replaced the out-going Minoru Makihara as chairman of the board.[5] In 2010, Kojima himself left the position of president and CEO to become chairman of the board of directors.[6] He is a member of the Japan Association of Corporate Executives (Keizai Doyukai), and was vice-chairman of that organization in 2003, and a board member from 2003 to 2008.[7] Notes1. ^{{Cite journal|title=三菱商事株式会社 - 代表取締役社長 小島 順彦" "Mitsubishi Corporation - Yorihiko Kojima President" |magazine= IR Magazine |issue= Autumn |year=2004 |volume= 67 |language=Japanese|url=http://www.net-ir.ne.jp/ir_magazine/sugao/vol067_8058.html |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20090421174645/http://www.net-ir.ne.jp/ir_magazine/sugao/vol067_8058.html |archivedate=21 April 2009|deadurl=yes}} 2. ^1 {{Cite journal|url=http://sangakukan.jp/journal/profile-b/kojima-y.html |title=Profile: 小島 順彦 (Profile: Yorihiko Kojima) |journal=産学官連携ジャーナル (Industry-University-Government Cooperation Journal) |year=2008|issue=1 (January)|volume=4|language=Japanese|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20081025062704/http://sangakukan.jp/journal/profile-b/kojima-y.html|archivedate=25 October 2008|deadurl=yes}} 3. ^1 {{Cite news|title=三菱商事 小島順彦社長 (Yorihiko Kojima, president of Mitsubishi Corporation) |newspaper=Reuters |location=Japan |date=29 December 2008|language=Japanese |url=http://president.jp.reuters.com/article/2009/02/06/017B10A0-ED01-11DD-B9BB-C3CE3E99CD51.php |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20090221094002/http://president.jp.reuters.com/article/2009/02/06/017B10A0-ED01-11DD-B9BB-C3CE3E99CD51.php |archivedate=21 February 2009|deadurl=yes}} 4. ^{{Cite web|author=Kojima, Yorihiko |title=米国勤務時代の思い出 (Memories of working in the United States) |date=October 2010 |publisher=Japan Association of Corporate Executives |language= Japanese |url=http://www.doyukai.or.jp/publish/2010/pdf/2010_10_05.pdf|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20150118190425/http://www.doyukai.or.jp/publish/2010/pdf/2010_10_05.pdf |archivedate=18 January 2015 |deadurl=no}} 5. ^Staff (21 January 2004) "Mitsubishi chairman retiring" United Press International (UPI) 6. ^{{Cite web|title= Yorihiko Kojima: Brief History|publisher=Mitsubishi Corporation|url=http://www.mitsubishicorp.com/jp/en/about/bmembers/ykojima.html|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20131026090148/http://www.mitsubishicorp.com/jp/en/about/bmembers/ykojima.html|archivedate=26 October 2013|deadurl=no}} 7. ^{{Cite web|title=2008年度(平成20年度)通常総会前記者会見発言要旨 (Press Conference Statement on the 2008 Fiscal Year General Meeting: Retirements) |date=25 April 2008 |publisher=Japan Association of Corporate Executives |language= Japanese |url=http://www.doyukai.or.jp/chairmansmsg/pressconf/2008/080425b.html|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20100129081946/http://www.doyukai.or.jp/chairmansmsg/pressconf/2008/080425b.html |archivedate=29 January 2010 |deadurl=no}} Sources
