HistoryDesigner Kim Phan first launched Yumi Kim in 2004. Her collections include vintage bodies, flirty prints, silk printed dresses, jumpers, tops, shorts, and jackets.[1] Every piece in her collections is in silk.[2] Named after herself and her Yorkshire terrier, Yumi, the clothing line has grown from a small operation to a brand featured in magazines and carried in upscale department stores, boutiques, and online. Design philosophy{{peacock|date=February 2018}}Statement pieces featuring vintage silhouettes and vibrant, bold prints are characteristic of Phan's design aesthetic.[3] Phan’s design philosophy sprung from her own experience as a working girl in New York City; always on the go, Phan incorporated a day-to-night concept in her pieces. The Yumi Kim customer is the girl who wants an outfit suitable for the office and can be easily transitioned for a night out after work.[4] LocationsThere are two Yumi Kim flagship stores; the first opened in 2008.[5] Located in New York’s Lower East Side at 105 Stanton St, the Yumi Kim flagship store was the first location to carry the entire Yumi Kim collection along with hand-picked vintage accessories, bags, and shoes. After the opening of the flagship store, the Yumi Kim online shop, [www.yumikimshop.com] was launched in March 2009. Upscale boutiques and multi-chain shops and department stores throughout the country such as Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Intermix, and Anthropologie also carry Yumi Kim.[6] Yumi Kim is also a featured brand on Rent the Runway. A second Yumi Kim flagship stored opened in 2011 in New York's Upper East Side at 1331 3rd Ave at 76th St. Compared to the Stanton Street flagship, the uptown shop has a more elegant uptown feel.[7] Media and celebritiesYumi Kim has been featured in magazines such as Lucky, People, US Weekly, In Touch, InStyle, and Cosmopolitan. Over the years, Yumi Kim has garnered a celebrity following. Celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton, Stephanie Pratt, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kendra Wilkinson, Audrina Patridge, Busy Philipps, Camila Alves, Gabrielle Union, and Lauren Conrad have all been photographed in Yumi Kim.[8] Entertainment television talk show hosts such as Giuliana Rancic, Lara Spencer, Kristin Dos Santos, Kristina Guerrero, and Ashlan Gorse have also been filmed wearing Yumi Kim.
