Contiguous with Emu Park, the town is located on the Pacific Ocean coast, {{convert|685|km|mi}} north west of the state capital, Brisbane and {{convert|46|km|mi}} east of the city of Rockhampton. It is within the local government area of Shire of Livingstone (between 2008 and 2013, it was within the Rockhampton Region). At the {{CensusAU|2006}}, Zilzie had a population of 1,153.[2] Zilzie was named for a property in the area which in turn was named as an anagram of Lizzie, the name of the property owner's wife.[3][4] Population
