Early life and familyScob was born Édith Scobeltzine, the granddaughter of a Russian Army general and White Russian émigré. Her father was an architect and her mother a journalist. Her elder brother, Michel Scob (1935–1995), was a French cycling champion and Olympian. At age 14, she underwent treatment for anorexia.[1] Her love of literature inspired an interest in theatre.[2] She was studying French at the Sorbonne and taking drama classes when she was cast in her first role.[3] She and her husband, composer Georges Aperghis, have two sons, Alexander (born 1970) and Jerome (born 1972), both writers.[1] CareerIn 1959, she had her breakout role at age 22 when she starred in Eyes Without a Face. She has been twice nominated for the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for Summer Hours (2008)[4] and Holy Motors (2012).[1][5] Following the events of May 1968, Édith founded an avante garde theatre in Bagnolet with her husband, composer Georges Aperghis, with the goal of introducing more culture to the most disadvantaged people.[6] Theatre Year | Title | Author | Director | Notes | 1958 | Don Juan | Henry de Montherlant | Georges Vitaly | Théâtre de l'Athénée | 1959 | L'Hurluberlu | Jean Anouilh | Roland Piétri | Théâtre des Champs-Élysées | 1960 | Tartuffe | Molière | Roland Piétri (2) | Théâtre des Champs-Élysées | 1961 | Le Square | Marguerite Duras | José Quaglio | Clérambard | Marcel Aymé | Claude Sainval | Théâtre des Champs-Élysées | 1962 | Les femmes aussi ont perdu la guerre | Curzio Malaparte | Raymond Gérôme | 1966 | Live Like Pigs | John Arden | Guy Rétoré | 1968 | Le Boulanger, la Boulangère et le Petit Mitron | Jean Anouilh | Jean Anouilh & Roland Piétri (3) | Théâtre des Champs-Élysées | 1971 | La Tragique Histoire du nécromancien Hiéronimo et de son miroir | Georges Aperghis | Hubert Jappelle | Festival d'Avignon | 1973 | L'Appareil-photo | Mireille Franchino | Mireille Franchino | Pandæmonium | Jules Verne | Anne Delbée | Festival d'Avignon | 1974 | Sa Négresse Jésus | Michel Puig | Michael Lonsdale & Catherine Dasté | Qui rapportera ces paroles ?
