It is primarily known for its basketball, football and track & field departments but also fields departments in badminton, gymnastics, handball, swimming, taekwondo and volleyball. The club was founded in 1952 as Ungmennafélagið Höttur. Breiðablik went all the way, and won the 2009 Cup. Women's footballHöttur women's team plays in 2. deild kvenna as of 2018.
