The area is part of the historical region of Styria. The municipality is now included in the Lower Sava Statistical Region.[2] NameThe name of the settlement was changed from Sveti Jurij pri Loki (literally, 'Saint George near Loka') to Šentjur na Polju in 1955.[3] ChurchThe local church from which the settlement gets its name is dedicated to Saint George ({{lang-sl|sveti Jurij}}, contracted to Šentjur) and belongs to the Parish of Loka pri Zidanem Mostu.
