The Waimea by-election of 1859 was a by-election for the electorate of Waimea during the 2nd New Zealand Parliament. It was triggered by the resignation of William Travers when he was appointed as a judge. According to Wilson, Travers was disqualified under the Act of 1858, and vacated the seat on 26 July 1859.[1] Only one candidate was nominated on 26 December 1859, Fedor Kelling, and he was immediately declared elected.[2] References1. ^{{cite book |last= Wilson |first= James Oakley |title= New Zealand Parliamentary Record, 1840–1984 |edition= 4th |origyear=First published in 1913 |year= 1985 |publisher= V E Ward, Government Printer |location=Wellington |oclc=154283103 |pages= 210, 241}} {{1853–1890 New Zealand by-elections}}{{oceania-election-stub}}{{NewZealand-poli-stub}}2. ^{{cite news |title=Election of a Member for the General Assembly |url= http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=TC18591230.2.8 |accessdate=8 April 2012 |newspaper=Colonist |volume=III |issue=229 |date=30 December 1859 |page=2}} 4 : By-elections in New Zealand|1859 elections in New Zealand|Politics of the Nelson Region|Politics of the Marlborough Region |
