In its third season under head coach Billy Suter, the team compiled a 4–2–2 record.[1] Sewanee was a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) during the majority of the 1901 season. However, the SIAA indefinitely suspeneded Sewanee on November 26, 1901, for allowing an ineligible player to participate in the November 16 game against Vanderbilt.[2][3] Schedule{{CFB schedule| timezone = Eastern |{{CFB schedule entry | date = September 28 | w/l = t | opponent = Mooney's School | site_stadium = Hardee Field | site_cityst = Sewanee, TN | score = 0–0 | source = [4] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 17 | w/l = w | opponent = {{cfb link|year=1900|team=Southwestern Presbyterian|title=Southwestern Presbyterian}} | site_stadium = Hardee Field | site_cityst = Sewanee, TN | score = 40–0 | source = [5] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 21 | w/l = w | opponent = Georgia | site_stadium = Hardee Field | site_cityst = Sewanee, TN | score = 47–0 | source = [6] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = October 25 | w/l = w | opponent = Cumberland (TN) | site_stadium = Hardee Field | site_cityst = Sewanee, TN | score = 44–5 | source = [7] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 2 | w/l = l | away = y | opponent = Nashville | site_stadium = Peabody Field | site_cityst = Nashville, TN | score = 6–39 | source = [8] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 8 | w/l = w | opponent = Mooney | site_stadium = Hardee Field | site_cityst = Sewanee, TN | score = 23–0 | source = [9] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 16 | w/l = t | away = y | opponent = Vanderbilt | site_stadium = Dudley Field | site_cityst = Nashville, TN | gamename = rivalry | score = 0–0 | source = [10] }} |{{CFB schedule entry | date = November 28 | w/l = l | away = y | opponent = Virginia | site_stadium = | site_cityst = Richmond, VA | score = 5–23 | source = [11] }} }} References1. ^{{cite url|url=http://www.sewanee.edu/athletics/PDFS/Football_04.pdf |title=2004 Sewanee football media guide |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20130309091121/http://www.sewanee.edu/athletics/PDFS/Football_04.pdf |archivedate=March 9, 2013 |df= }} {{Sewanee Tigers football navbox}}2. ^{{cite news|title=Sewanee's Trouble: Indefinitely Suspended from Athletic Association|newspaper=The Montgomery Advertiser|date=November 27, 1901|page=10|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/19320952/mtgyad27nov1901p10/|via=Newspapers.com}} 3. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/3116130/the_charlotte_news/|work=The Charlotte News|page=11|date=December 14, 1901|title=Athletic Blacklist Has Widespread Effect|accessdate=August 29, 2015|via=Newspapers.com}} {{Open access}} 4. ^{{cite news|title=Sewanee and Mooney Play, but Neither Eleven Scores|newspaper=The Nashville American|date=September 29, 1901|page=6|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/29741023/sewanee_and_mooney_play_but_neither/|via=Newspapers.com}} 5. ^{{cite news|title=From The Gridirons: Makeup of the University of the South Team|newspaper=The Nashville American|date=October 18, 1901|page=6|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/29741721/from_the_gridirons_makeup_of_the/|via=Newspapers.com}} 6. ^{{cite news|title=Sewanee 47; Georgia 0|newspaper=The Nashville American|date=October 22, 1901|page=6|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/29735711/sewanee_47_georgia_0/|via=Newspapers.com}} 7. ^{{cite news|title=Sewanee Wins|newspaper=The Nashville American|date=October 26, 1901|page=6|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/29741140/sewanee_wins/|via=Newspapers.com}} 8. ^{{cite news|title=Sewanee Defeated: Nashville Too Strong for Plucky Mountain Boys|newspaper=The Nashville American|date=November 3, 1901|page=8|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/29741280/sewanee_defeated_nashville_too_strong/|via=Newspapers.com}} 9. ^{{cite news|title=Sewanee vs. Mooney: Former Wins Easily -- Osborne and Davis Allowed to Play|newspaper=The Nashville American|date=November 9, 1901|page=6|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/29741381/sewanee_vs_mooney_former_wins_easily/|via=Newspapers.com}} 10. ^{{cite news|title=Neither One Scored: Vanderbilt and Mountain Lads Play a Tie Game|newspaper=The Nashville American|date=November 17, 1901|page=18|url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/29741507/neither_one_scored_vanderbilt_and/|via=Newspapers.com}} 11. ^{{cite news|url=https://virginiachronicle.com/cgi-bin/virginia?a=d&d=T19011129.1.2&srpos=1&e=------190-en-20--1--txt-txIN-1901+sewanee----1901--|title=Virginia's Plunging Won From Sewanee By Score of 23 to 5|date=November 29, 1901|volume=16|work=The Times}} 3 : 1901 college football season|Sewanee Tigers football seasons|1901 in sports in Tennessee |
