释义 |
The South Londonderry by-election of 1916 was held on 22 May 1916. The by-election was held due to the resignation of the incumbent Irish Unionist MP, John Gordon. It was won by the Irish Unionist candidate Denis Henry[1] (a Catholic). It was the first by-election to be held in Ireland after the Easter rebellion, and the rebellion had had no discernible impact on the contest. {{Election box begin ||title=By-election, 1916: South Londonderry[2]}}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Irish Unionist Alliance |candidate = Denis Henry |votes = 3,808 |percentage = 94.7 |change = +42.4 }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Independent Unionist |candidate = Arthur Turnbull |votes = 214 |percentage = 5.3 |change = N/A }}{{Election box majority| |votes = 3,594 |percentage = 89.4 |change = +84.9 }}{{Election box turnout| |votes = 4,022 |percentage = 47.8 |change = −43.6 }}{{Election box registered electors| |reg. electors = 8,416 }}{{Election box hold with party link| |winner = Irish Unionist Alliance |swing = N/A }}{{Election box end}} References1. ^http://www.leighrayment.com/commons.htm {{By-elections to the 30th UK Parliament}}{{Ireland-UK-Parl-by-election-stub}}2. ^{{cite book|editor1-last=Walker|editor1-first=B.M.|title=Parliamentary Election Results in Ireland, 1801-1922|date=1978|publisher=Royal Irish Academy|location=Dublin|isbn=0901714127}} 4 : 1916 in Ireland|1916 elections in the United Kingdom|By-elections to the Parliament of the United Kingdom in County Londonderry constituencies|20th century in County Londonderry |
