Season 1916–17 was the 40th Scottish football season in which Dumbarton competed at national level, entering the Scottish Football League for the 18th time.

Overview

Dumbarton finished 10th out of 20 in their fourth successive season in the 'top' Division, with 35 points, 29 behind champions Celtic.[1]

Locally, in the second playing of the Dumbartonshire Charity Cup, Dumbarton were successful by beating Dumbarton Harp in the final.
