The season opened on Saturday 7 May with the opening fixture between {{SANFL WestA}} and {{SANFL Gle}}, and concluded on Saturday 8 October with the Grand Final, in which Minor Premiers {{AFL Por}} went on to record its 9th premiership, defeating {{SANFL Nor}} by 8 points. {{SANFL SthA}}, {{SANFL Stu}} also made the top (final) four teams and participated in the finals series. {{SANFL NthA}}, {{SANFL WT}}, {{SANFL WestA}}, {{SANFL Gle}} all missed the top four, with the last of those finishing winless to win the wooden spoon in its first season.
