Overview Dumbarton's ninth consecutive season in the First Division showed a slight improvement in the previous season's performance by finishing 20th out of 22 with 30 points, some way behind champions Celtic. Unfortunately this was to co-incide with the introduction of automatic promotion/relegation, and Dumbarton were relegated to Division Two for the following season.[1] In the Scottish Cup, Dumbarton were knocked out in the first round by Aberdeen. Locally, Dumbarton won both the Dumbartonshire Cup and the Dumbartonshire Charity Cup by defeating Dumbarton Harp (after a replay) and Clydebank (on corners won) respectively. Elsewhere, at the end of the season Dumbarton embarked on their first 'official' foreign tour, playing 8 matches in Norway and Sweden, winning 5, drawing 1 and losing 2, scoring 15 goals for the loss of 11. Two other friendlies were played against Vale of Leven and Leith Athletic. ResultsAll results are written with Dumbarton's score first.
