释义 |
The Clay Cross by-election of 1933 was held on 1 September 1933. The by-election was held due to the death of the incumbent Labour MP, Charles Duncan.[1] Unusually, the Constituency Labour Party asked for nominations for the vacancy, and published the list: Percy Barstow of the National Union of Railwaymen, former leader of the party Arthur Henderson, Samuel Sales of the Derbyshire Miners' Association, and Ben Smith, former Member of Parliament for Rotherhithe. Henderson was chosen as the party's candidate, and H. Drinkwater acted as his election agent.[2] Henderson easily won the election.[2] {{Election box begin ||title=Clay Cross by-election, 1933 Electorate 44,466 }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Labour Party (UK) |candidate = Arthur Henderson |votes = 21,931 |percentage = 69.3 |change = }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Conservative Party (UK) |candidate = John Moores |votes = 6,293 |percentage = 19.9 |change = }}{{Election box candidate with party link| |party = Communist Party of Great Britain |candidate = Harry Pollitt |votes = 3,434 |percentage = 10.8 |change = }}{{Election box majority| |votes = 15,638 |percentage = |change = }}{{Election box turnout| |votes = |percentage = 71.2 |change = }}{{Election box hold with party link| |winner = Labour Party (UK) |loser = |swing = }}{{Election box end}} References1. ^http://www.leighrayment.com/commons.htm {{By-elections to the 36th UK Parliament}}{{England-UK-Parl-by-election-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite journal |title=Parliamentary by-elections |journal=Report of the Annual Labour Party Conference |date=1933 |page=41}} 4 : 1933 elections in the United Kingdom|1933 in England|20th century in Derbyshire|By-elections to the Parliament of the United Kingdom in Derbyshire constituencies |
