An unofficial referendum on the fate of Governor Pearson was held in the United States Virgin Islands on 16 July 1933.[1] Governor Paul Martin Pearson had passed a law which taxed imports from the United States at a rate of 5%. This move was very unpopular, and the Civic Betterment Association held a private referendum asking voters whether they approved or disapproved of Pearson's actions. Results
