释义 |
The Leeds municipal elections were held on Saturday 1 November 1947,[1] with one third of the seats, as well as a vacancy in Pottermewton, up for election. With no Liberal candidate this time, East Hunslet went unopposed.[2] Following favourable national patterns,[1] the swing of two percent[3] to the Conservatives helped the party decisively win the popular vote and, in part thanks to a spike in turnout to 55.3%,[3] gain new post-war records in both share and votes.[2] Despite a deficit of over 20,000 votes and losses totalling seven seats to the Conservatives, Labour were still able to pip them in seats won by an additional seat.[2] As such, Labour's majority was cut by close to a third, but remained safe at 30.[3] Election result{{Election Summary Begin|title = Leeds Local Election Result 1947}}{{Election Summary Party||party = Labour Party (UK) |seats = 14 |gain = 0 |loss = 7 |net = -7 |seats % = 51.8 |votes % = 42.8 |votes = 81,559 |plus/minus = -2.1% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Conservative Party (UK) |seats = 13 |gain = 7 |loss = 0 |net = +7 |seats % = 48.1 |votes % = 53.5 |votes = 101,832 |plus/minus = +2.1% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Liberal Party (UK) |seats = 0 |gain = 0 |loss = 0 |net = 0 |seats % = 0.0 |votes % = 3.0 |votes = 5,774 |plus/minus = +0.1% }}{{Election Summary Party| |party = Communist Party of Great Britain |seats = 0 |gain = 0 |loss = 0 |net = 0 |seats % = 0.0 |votes % = 0.7 |votes = 1,332 |plus/minus = -0.0% }}{{Election box end}} The result had the following consequences for the total number of seats on the council after the elections:[3]
