It was the 40th edition of the tournament and the second edition in the Open Era of tennis. The tournament was held from 28 April through 3 May 1969.[3] John Newcombe, seeded first, and Margaret Court won the first open singles titles while the men's team of Bob Hewitt and Frew McMillan and the women's team of Margaret Court and Judy Tegart won the doubles titles.[4] The poor state of the courts led to a protest by a number of players.[5] The tournament made a financial loss due to higher expenses compared to the previous edition and poor weather during the final two days.[6] ChampionsMen's singles{{main|1969 British Hard Court Championships – Men's Singles}}{{flagicon|AUS}} John Newcombe defeated {{flagicon|RSA|1928}} Bob Hewitt 6–8, 6–3, 5–7, 6–4, 6–4Women's singles{{main|1969 British Hard Court Championships – Women's Singles}}{{flagicon|AUS}} Margaret Court defeated {{flagicon|GBR}} Winnie Shaw 5–7, 6–4, 6–4Men's doubles{{main|1969 British Hard Court Championships – Men's Doubles}}{{flagicon|RSA|1928}} Bob Hewitt / {{flagicon|RSA|1928}} Frew McMillan defeated {{flagicon|FRA}} Jean-Claude Barclay / {{flagicon|GBR}} Robert Wilson 6–4, 6–2, 2–6, 9–7Women's doubles{{main|1969 British Hard Court Championships – Women's Doubles}}{{flagicon|AUS}} Margaret Court / {{flagicon|AUS}} Judy Tegart defeated {{flagicon|NED}} Ada Bakker / {{flagicon|NED}} Marijke Schaar 6–1, 6–4Mixed doubles{{main|1969 British Hard Court Championships – Mixed Doubles}}{{flagicon|GBR}} Virginia Wade / {{flagicon|RSA|1928}} Bob Maud defeated {{flagicon|AUS}} Fay Toyne-Moore / {{flagicon|AUS}} Jimmy Moore 6–2, 6–2References1. ^{{cite web|title=ATP – 1969 Bournemouth Men's Singles draw|url=http://www.atpworldtour.com/Share/Event-Draws.aspx?Year=1969&EventId=347&Draw=ms|publisher=Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP)}} 2. ^{{cite web|title=ATP – 1969 Bournemouth Men's Doubles draw|url=http://www.atpworldtour.com/Share/Event-Draws.aspx?Year=1969&EventId=347&Draw=md|publisher=Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP)}} 3. ^{{cite news|title=Cox may reach Newcombe|url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=i5xAAAAAIBAJ&sjid=FqUMAAAAIBAJ&pg=1538%2C4456756|work=The Glasgow Herald|date=24 April 1969|page=9}} 4. ^{{cite book|publisher=Clipper Press|isbn=0851080049|publication-place=London|title=BP year book of World Tennis 1970|url = http://openlibrary.org/books/OL21635829M/B.P._yearbook_of_world_tennis.|editor=John Barrett |publication-date=1970 |oclc=502255545 |ol= 21635829M|pages=167–168}} 5. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article131782319 |title=Criticism of English courts. |newspaper=The Canberra Times |date=3 May 1969 |page=32 |via=National Library of Australia}} 6. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article131782591 |title=Hardcourt titles a financial failure. |newspaper=The Canberra Times |date=6 May 1969 |page=25 |via=National Library of Australia}} External links
