Galway led 1-4 to 0-5 at half-time with a Michael Rooney goal. Paddy Cullen saved a penalty kick (placed 17th in RTÉ's 2005 series Top 20 GAA Moments) and Kevin Heffernan's Dublin staged a comeback to win by five points.[1] It was Galway's second consecutive All-Ireland football final; they lost to Cork in 1973.[2] {{Clear}}References1. ^High Ball magazine, issue #6, 1998. 2. ^{{cite news|first=Tom|last=Kenny|url=http://www.advertiser.ie/galway/article/38701/the-men-who-first-brought-sam-to-galway|title=The men who first brought Sam to Galway|newspaper=Galway Advertiser|date=14 April 2011|accessdate=14 April 2011|quote=Offaly beat us in 1971 by 1 – 14 to 2 – 8, and in 1973, Cork beat us by 3 – 17 to 2 – 13.
