Each team played one match against the other teams, playing a total of eleven matches each. There was no set date for matches, clubs having to arrange the fixtures amongst themselves.[2] Rosslyn Park, the first champions, were promoted to the Courage League National Division One for season 1988–89 along with the runner-up, Liverpool St Helens. Although Northampton finished in last place they were not relegated to Courage League National Division Three for the following season. Almost all clubs in the national divisions reported an increase in attendances.[3][4] Participating teams{{location map+ |England |float= |width=500 |caption= Locations of the 1987–88 Courage League National Division Two teams |places={{location map~ |England |lat=52.1337 |long=-0.4577 |label={{resize|70%|Bedford}}|position=right}}{{location map~ |England |lat=55 |long=-1.6 |label={{resize|70%|Gosworth}}|position=left}}{{Location map~ |England | lat_deg = 53 |lat_min=49 |lat_dir=N | lon_deg = 1 |lon_min=34|lon_dir=W|label=Headingley |position=right}}{{location map~ |England |lat=53.456307 |long=-2.737094 |label=Liverpool |position=top}}{{location map~ |England |lat=51.531908 |long=0.039406 |label= {{resize|70%|London}}|position=bottom}}{{location map~ |England |lat=52.240477 |long= -0.902655 |label={{resize|70%|Northampton}}|position=right}}{{Location map~ |England |mark=TransparentPlaceholder.png |marksize=1 |lat=50.7 |long=-0.5 |label={{resize|70%|London teamsBlackheathSt Helens London Irish London Welsh Richmond Rosslyn Park Saracens}}|position=right}} }}{{Location map+|Greater London | caption = Greater London Courage League Division Two clubs | alt = Greater London Courage League Division Two | float = right | width = 350 | places ={{location map~ |England |lat=51.403928 |long=-0.412931 |label=London Irish|position=left}} {{Location map~|Greater London|lat=51.4689 |long=-0.2953|label=London Welsh|label_size=75|marksize=|position=top}} {{Location map~|Greater London|lat=51.46647 |long=-0.30334|label='''Richmond'''|label_size=75|marksize=|position=left}} {{Location map~|Greater London|lat=51.463457 |long=-0.249171|label='''Rosslyn Park'''|label_size=75|marksize=|position=right}} {{Location map~|Greater London|lat=51.654464 |long=-0.081814|label='''Saracens'''|label_size=75|marksize=|position=bottom}} }}
