释义 |
A by-election was held for the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Greensborough on 15 April 1989. The by-election was triggered by the resignation on 28 February of Pauline Toner, the sitting Labor member, who died on 3 March. The election was won by the Labor candidate Sherryl Garbutt, despite a 16-point swing on first preferences. Garbutt was a former schoolteacher, while the Liberal candidate Margaret Brown ran a catering business. Her husband at the time was Neil Brown, a member of the federal shadow cabinet.[1] Results{{Election box begin ||title=Greensborough by-election, 1989[2] }}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Labor VIC |candidate = Sherryl Garbutt |votes = 11,862 |percentage = 40.12 |change = -15.95 }}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Liberal VIC |candidate = Margaret Brown |votes = 11,363 |percentage = 38.43 |change = -5.50 }}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Democrats |candidate = Peter Allan |votes = 4,671 |percentage = 15.80 |change = +15.80 }}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Democratic Labor |candidate = John Mulholland |votes = 706 |percentage = 2.39 |change = +2.39 }}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Independent |candidate = Barbara Gilchrist |votes = 479 |percentage = 1.62 |change = +1.62 }}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Independent |candidate = Lance Hutchinson |votes = 387 |percentage = 1.31 |change = +1.31 }}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Independent |candidate = Raelene Jones |votes = 100 |percentage = 0.34 |change = +0.34 }}{{Election box formal |votes = 29,568 |percentage = 96.94 |change = +0.18 }}{{Election box informal |votes = 932 |percentage = 3.06 |change = -0.18 }}{{Election box turnout |votes = 30,500 |percentage = 90.25 |change = -3.67 }}{{Election box 2pp}}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Labor VIC |candidate = Sherryl Garbutt |votes = 15,229 |percentage = 51.55 |change = -4.52 }}{{Election box candidate AU party| |party = Liberal VIC |candidate = Margaret Brown |votes = 14,314 |percentage = 48.45 |change = +4.52 }}{{Election box hold AU party |winner = Labor VIC |swing = -4.52 }}{{Election box end}} References1. ^{{cite news|url=https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/120919057|title=Bad news for Cain Govt is no help to Liberals|date=27 March 1989|publisher=The Canberra Times}} 2. ^{{cite book|title=Report on the Greensborough district by-election, 15 April 1989|publisher=State Electoral Office Victoria|date=1989}} 3 : 1989 elections in Australia|Victorian state by-elections|20th century in Victoria (Australia) |
