The Beavers ended the season with two wins and nine losses. 1996 was Oregon State's 26th consecutive losing season. The Beavers scored 216 points and allowed 388 points. The 388 points allowed remains the most allowed by an Oregon State team since 1987. The team was led by head coach Jerry Pettibone for the sixth year. Pettibone resigned at the end of the season. The Beavers hired Mike Riley to replace Pettibone in 1997.
